FP&A and
Financial Modelling

Last updated: 1 September 2026

Interim FP&A and outsourced controlling for PE portfolio companies and tech scale-ups: budgets, rolling forecasts and variance analysis. We build the planning process or support recurring work packages; financial modelling provides the right model.

Build FP&A or stabilise your forecast?

We clarify the next management decision, data baseline and planning drivers, then distinguish model development from ongoing FP&A support.

Role profile: interim FP&A

For PE portfolios and tech scale-ups that need additional capacity or a reliable process for budgeting, forecasting and management analysis.

When this role fits

A budget cycle, FP&A vacancy, new investor requirements or a forecast that fails to connect growth, hiring and cash. Finance leadership is in place; planning and analysis need support.

Responsibilities and deliverables

Agree drivers and assumptions with business owners, maintain budgets and forecasts, explain variances and model scenarios. Agree a model, driver register, management commentary and repeatable update process.

Handover and scope

A named owner can update the model with new actuals and explain variances. Document data sources and assumptions. Accounting resolves transaction and closing issues; the CFO owns decisions.

To start, we need approved actuals, a planning horizon, operational drivers and an accountable owner. A modelling project delivers a model with handover; ongoing FP&A covers agreed forecast and analysis cycles. Accounting backlogs and CFO responsibility require separate roles.

Three ways to build reliable planning

Interim FP&A

Temporary support for a vacancy, budgeting cycle or analysis backlog. We take on agreed planning tasks and hand over models, assumptions and routines to your team.

FP&A on an ongoing basis

Forecasts, variance analysis and decision papers are updated at an agreed cadence. This complements your existing CFO or finance lead.

Financial modelling project

For financing, an acquisition or a new plan, we build a defined model with scenarios and documented assumptions. Handover is part of the project; ongoing support is agreed separately.

For delivery in the portfolio: FP&A implementation guide (German). Clarify the data baseline first in the Finance Assessment and use the PE reporting package for the monthly report.

What does FP&A do in a company?

FP&A means Financial Planning & Analysis. We connect actual figures, operating drivers and planning assumptions, explain variances and prepare options for action. Financial modelling provides the calculation framework; FP&A keeps planning and decision-making up to date at agreed intervals.

  • Traceable scenarios: Financial models connect operational drivers, documented assumptions and liquidity. Scenarios show how changing assumptions affect profit and cash; they do not guarantee future outcomes.
  • Risk assessment and management: Identify and assess the risks in your business environment with our advanced modelling techniques, so you are well prepared for whatever comes next.
  • Strategic decision-making: Strengthen your strategic planning with deep insights and scenario analyses based on our robust financial models, and make the decisions that move your company forward.

Which deliverables are agreed?

Deliverables can include a driver-based budget, a rolling forecast, an integrated income statement, balance sheet and cash plan, plus variance commentary. Assumptions, data sources and owners are documented. Your team receives a model it can maintain and review.

Up to 80% of your consulting costs as a grant – we handle the application

Depending on where your business is based, the grant is 80 percent (up to €2,800) or 50 percent (up to €1,750) of the eligible consulting costs. It is calculated on the assessment basis of at most €3,500, not on the total project cost. We check which rate applies to your location in advance – and we take care of the application.

*Example for a business location in the 80 percent region: 80 percent of the €3,500 assessment basis gives a grant of €2,800. In the 50 percent region it is at most €1,750. The applicable rules are the funding guideline „Förderung von Unternehmensberatungen für KMU“ of 14 December 2022 as amended on 12 December 2024; the programme runs until 31 December 2026. Up to five consulting engagements are eligible in that period, at most two per calendar year. Since 15 November 2025 the grant is calculated on the gross invoice amount for applicants who cannot reclaim input VAT. There is no legal entitlement to the funding; BAFA decides on approval and amount. As of September 2026.

From briefing to a usable forecast

01

Data collection & analysis

We start with the decision at hand: budget approval, a board meeting, financing or cash management. We then review data sources, the existing model and responsibilities. Missing data and uncertain assumptions are explicitly recorded.

02

Model development & simulation

We build or revise the agreed model, connect actual figures and drivers, and review scenarios with the responsible teams. Results are prepared for decisions with documented assumptions and variance commentary.

03

Review & adjustment:

A modelling project ends with documentation and handover. Interim FP&A additionally covers agreed updates, coordination and reporting cycles. We agree with your team which tasks will continue internally.
